A recent grant awarded to Ms. Fitzpatrick, math specialist and coach at Gerald Huesken Middle School, is bringing research-backed math instruction to life for students. Studies consistently show that middle school learners—especially those who need extra support with foundational skills—grasp concepts more effectively when lessons start with hands-on, concrete experiences before moving to abstract equations and symbols.

This grant funds a fully equipped mobile math intervention cart stocked with tools like fraction tiles, algebra tiles, number lines, base-ten blocks, and geometric solids.
